Tongues accompanies the Baptism in the Holy Spirit
In the next few sessions we will learn from Scripture that the Baptism in the Holy Spirit is accompanied by the speaking in tongues.. But before we continue, we must remember to put the topic of tongues in proper perspective:
Once again remember, it’s not only about tongues, it’s about the power
Our Lord Jesus promised, “But ye shall receive power, after that the Holy Ghost is come upon you: and ye shall be witnesses unto me both in Jerusalem, and in all Judaea, and in Samaria, and unto the uttermost part of the earth” (Acts 1:8, KJV).
He didn’t say, “You shall receive tongues”. He said, “You shall receive power”. Yet Jesus did say in the Book of Mark ,“And these signs shall follow them that believe; In my name shall they cast out devils; they shall speak with new tongues…” (Mark 16:17). Keep in mind that Jesus said the words of Mark 16 and Acts 1 at the same event. He certainly did say that we would speak in tongues, and He also said that we would receive power.
But unfortunately we often put the emphasis on tongues, and not on the power. The emphasis should be on both really, but remember, it’s about the POWER of the Holy Spirit!
What is the Power for?
Firstly, POWER TO LIVE;
Secondly, POWER TO BE A WITNESS
Thirdly, POWER TO OPERATE IN THE GIFTS OF THE HOLY SPIRIT
